Job title: Data Engineering Team Lead Job type: Permanent Salary: Up to €90,000 (depending on experience)Role Location: Fully remote – must be based in Portugal The company: A purpose-driven, international non-profit organisation using data and technology to create meaningful social impact at scale. Operating across multiple regions, the organisation partners closely with local systems and communities to support long-term, sustainable outcomes. Role and responsibilities: As Data Engineering Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading and evolving the organisation's data platform while managing and mentoring a growing data engineering team. You will work closely with analytics, product, and engineering stakeholders to ensure high-quality, reliable, and accessible data across the business. Key responsibilities: Leading the design, delivery, and evolution of data platforms, pipelines, and models Ensuring data quality, reliability, performance, and scalability Planning and prioritising data initiatives aligned with business and product goals Providing technical leadership, architectural guidance, and code/design reviews Coaching and supporting data engineers, fostering strong engineering standards Job requirements: 8+ years' experience working with complex data systems 3+ years' experience leading or managing data engineering teams Strong software engineering background (Python, Java, or Scala)Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing Experience working with large-scale data platforms Solid understanding of data quality, governance, and best practices Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-functional teams Recent experience working at product-focussed, tech-first companies.
