Application ArchitectApplication Architect - Laravel, API's, web app architecturesFully Remote | UK or EuropeWe are hiring an experienced Application Architect to work closely with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure the correct design and evolution of their technical systems.This role operates upstream of development. You'll analyse requirements, define technical approaches and ensure systems are designed properly before implementation begins, reducing rework and improving long-term maintainability.Role OverviewAct as the technical bridge between Product and EngineeringWork upstream of development to analyse requirements and define technical approachesEnsure clear separation of concerns across frontend, backend and infrastructureResponsibilitiesCollaborate with senior technical and product leadership to analyse and clarify product requirementsReview and refine tickets before they are assigned to developersDefine and document system architecture, technical approaches, data models, data flows and API contractsEnsure clear frontend vs backend responsibilitiesPrevent over-engineering, under-engineering and business logic leaking into the frontendSupport engineering teams during implementation to ensure alignment with agreed designsEscalate complex or high-risk technical decisions where requiredRequirementsSolid experience in backend development and system designProven experience designing and evolving complex systems in productionDeep understanding of web application architectures, REST APIs and data-driven systemsStrong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQLProven commercial experience working with PHP Laravel (essential)Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersPragmatic mindset with sound judgement around technical trade-offsDesirable ExperienceExperience working in product-led environmentsExperience with large monolithic systems evolving over timeFamiliarity with modular or service-oriented architecturesExperience mentoring senior engineers on architectural topicsThis role offers the opportunity to define how architectural decisions are made before development begins and to shape system design at a critical stage of growth.Candidates will need to be based in either the UK or Europe only.Unfortunately we are unable to provide sponsorship for this position.
