You'll work primarily with PostgreSQL and Python, building systems that need to be correct, understandable, and easy to operate.What you'll be working onPermissions & Access ControlDesigning and maintaining PostgreSQL schemas to support roles, permissions, and attribute-based access control (ABAC)Implementing and evolving row-level security (RLS) policies in PostgreSQLWriting and optimising complex SQL queries, views, and functions with security and performance in mindBuilding and maintaining a Python backend service responsible for:Managing roles, permissions, and policiesValidating and enforcing access rulesExposing clean APIs for the rest of the applicationData Ingestion AutomationBuilding backend features that automate data ingestion workflows within the SaaSImplementing logic to configure, trigger, and monitor ingestion pipelines (e.g. API-based imports, scheduled syncs, file-based ingestion)Designing database models to track ingestion state, metadata, and failuresWorking with existing ingestion tools and services rather than reinventing core infrastructureImproving reliability, observability, and debuggability of ingestion processesCollaboration & ImprovementWorking closely with product, frontend, and data teams to translate requirements into robust backend and database designsReviewing and improving existing permission and ingestion patterns as the platform evolvesWriting clear, maintainable code and documentation for security- and data-critical systemsWhat we're looking forAround 5 years of professional backend engineering experienceStrong PostgreSQL knowledge, including:Schema design and migrationsIndexing and query optimisationSQL functions and viewsRow-Level Security (RLS) and role-based permissionsStrong SQL skills and a good understanding of how Postgres executes queriesSolid experience building backend services in Python (e.g. FastAPI or similar)Experience working with data ingestion or integration workflows (APIs, ETL-style processes, or data sync jobs)Familiarity with authentication and authorisation concepts (RBAC, ABAC, least-privilege access)Comfortable working in production systems where data correctness and security matterNice to have Experience designing permission systems or multi-tenant SaaS architecturesExposure to Postgres internals such as query planning.Experience working with JSONB and semi-structured data in PostgreSQLFamiliarity with orchestration or ingestion tools (e.g. Airflow, Dagster, dbt, dlt, or similar)Experience operating backend services in a cloud environment (AWS, GCP, or similar)What this role is notNot a DevOps or infrastructure-heavy roleNot a pure data engineering roleNot a security architect positionWhy join usWork on core platform problems: fine-grained permissions and reliable data ingestionStrong ownership of systems that directly impact customersA pragmatic engineering culture that values clarity, correctness, and maintainabilityOpportunity to deepen expertise in PostgreSQL, backend architecture, and data-intensive systemsWhat We OfferGround-floor opportunity to shape data-driven AI solutions at a fast-growing startupWork alongside experienced founders and a driven teamCompetitive compensation + early equityRemote-friendly, flexible work culture
