Cable Technician

Location: Portugal (travel may be required)Contract Type: Contract / FreelanceStart Date: OngoingDuration: Long-term project work availableWe're currently supporting a major delivery partner on large-scale data centre projects and are looking for experienced Contract Cable Technicians to join site teams across multiple locations.This role is strictly for contractors with proven data centre experience, their own tools, and strong recent project references.What you'll be doingYou'll be working on high-spec data centre installations and upgrades, carrying out structured cabling works across live and new build environments. Typical duties include:Installing, dressing and securing copper and fibre cablingTerminating Cat6 / Cat6A and fibre (LC, SC, MPO/MTP)Patching and cross-connects within racks and cabinetsInstalling and populating patch panelsRack and stack of IT and network equipmentFibre splicing where required (advantageous, not essential)Testing and fault finding (Fluke and fibre testers)Labelling and documenting all cabling correctlyWorking to strict data centre quality and safety standardsMaintaining clean, compliant work areasProjects include hyperscale, colocation and AI-driven data centre environments.What you'll needThis is not a junior role. We're looking for technicians who can hit the ground running:Proven experience as a Cable Technician / Structured Cabling EngineerMust have previous data centre experienceStrong knowledge of fibre and copper cabling systemsConfident with patching, terminating, testing and labellingAble to read drawings and follow installation plansGood attention to detail and pride in workmanshipComfortable working as part of a site teamStrong understanding of health & safety on live sitesMust be able to speak English (site communication & safety)Must be able to provide 2 strong references from recent projects or employersTools & equipmentContractors must supply their own standard hand tools and installation equipment, including:Basic termination toolsHand tools (snips, strippers, punch-down tools, etc.)Test equipment (Fluke or equivalent preferred)Specialist equipment such as OTDRs and fusion splicers may be provided on some projects if required.Advantageous experience (nice to have)Previous work in hyperscale or AI-focused data centresFibre splicing experience (fusion or ribbon)MPO/MTP systemsOTDR testingContainment and rack build experienceManufacturer cabling certifications (CommScope, Panduit, Excel, Siemon, etc.)
