Data Architecture / Engineering Lead

We are looking for a Data Architecture / Engineering Lead to join our team and take ownership of end-to-end data engineering initiatives, from architecture design to production delivery.

In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of scalable data platforms and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, enterprise-grade data solutions. You will play a key role in bridging technical expertise with business needs, ensuring the successful execution of complex data projects.

The role combines leadership, data architecture, and hands-on engineering expertise, with a strong focus on cloud-based data platforms and modern data engineering practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, discuss, estimate, and set up data platform architectures
  • Define project backlogs, oversee delivery, and report progress
  • Coordinate teams of data professionals responsible for delivering data workloads
  • Implement complex data solutions and ensure QA of junior team members
  • Support pre-sales activities related to data architecture and engineering opportunities

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering, with strong exposure to cloud environments
  • At least 5 years of experience working with Microsoft and/or Databricks-based ecosystems
  • Proven experience leading technical teams in large, enterprise-grade projects
  • Strong knowledge of data architecture and infrastructure design
  • Experience with estimation and DevOps practices
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Python / PySpark
    • SQL
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)
    • Azure SQL
    • Databricks
  • Experience delivering production-grade solutions in Azure environments
  • Strong understanding of data engineering principles and best practices
  • Ability to work in hybrid environments (Lisbon and/or Porto)
  • Fluency in English

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with:
    • T-SQL / KQL
    • Power BI
    • Microsoft SSIS / SSAS / SSRS
    • Microsoft Purview
    • Streaming / data engineering tools (e.g., Kafka)
    • Microsoft Fabric
  • Experience in consulting or large corporate environments
  • Ability to work directly with clients in on-site scenarios
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal in PT-PT and EN)
  • Ability to combine business understanding with technical expertise
  • Collaborative and proactive mindset
