Offer Description Call for Research Grant AssignmentThe University of Coimbra opens a call for the assignment of a research grant, with one position(s), under the project Multitool4
- Ferramentas de Corte Multifuncionais. Procedure Reference: IT**Legal Admission Requirements I
- Grant Recipients: Master's degree holders, in the scientific area of Mechanical Engineering, enrolled in a non-degree-granting course.
II
- The non-degree-granting course must be related to the type of activity covered by the grant.
Non-degree-granting courses are defined as those referred to in subparagraph e) of paragraph 3 of Article 4 of Decree-Law No. *, in its current wording, provided that, under subparagraph e) of Article 3 of RBI-FCT, they are developed in association or cooperation between the higher education institution and one or more R&D units.
III
- Ineligible candidates: Candidates enrolled in non-degree-granting courses who have already benefited from a grant contract and who, with this grant assignment, including possible renewals, exceed a total accumulated period of two consecutive or non-consecutive years in this type of grant.
Eligibility for Grant AssignmentPortuguese nationals or nationals of other EU Member StatesNationals of third countriesStateless personsBeneficiaries of political refugee statusGrant

location:
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Coimbra.
Scientific supervision/coordination of the grant: Marta Cristina Cardoso de Oliveira.
Work Plan / Goals The research grant aims to develop research work within the scope of the aforementioned project, which combines numerical and experimental approaches to model machining operations, in particular drilling, box opening and counterboring operations.
TasksDevelopment of numerical simulation models that allow the isolated analysis of each machining operation, for the different types of construction steel and pre-treated steel under study.
These models will be used to evaluate the influence of tool geometry on cutting conditions, in combination with process parameters.
Development of numerical simulation models for different machining strategies, based on the integration of the different operations, sequentially, to include in the analysis factors such as work hardening of the material or residual stresses in the tool, induced by the previous operations.
The models with the sequence of operations will be used to explore the process parameter space in order to evaluate the combination that leads to more robust solutions, i.
E. less sensitive to potential variations in the mechanical properties of materials.
Results dissemination and participation in scientific management activities.
The research fellow will be mainly involved in the numerical component of the project, related to the construction of numerical models, sensitivity analysis to geometric and process parameters and correlation with experimental results.
Funding and Grant DetailsInitial grant duration: 12 months.
Renewal Possibility: Possibly renewable.
Monthly grant amount (paid by bank transfer at the end of each month): 1,
**€.
When the grant has a duration of six months or more, voluntary social security (SSV) is included at the first level if the candidate opts for it, as well as mandatory personal accident insurance.
Funding: The grant(s) assigned under this call will be funded by European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Innovation and Digital Transition Program (COMPETE
) of Portugal , reference operation no. *, operation COMPETE-FEDER-** on Balcão dos Fundos.
Funding information and publicity: All R&D activities directly or indirectly financed by the grant, namely all communications, publications and scientific creations, as well as theses, carried out with the support provided by the grant, must mention the financial support of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), through the Innovation and Digital Transition Program (COMPETE **) of Portugal **.
Selection Methods VII
- Selection Methods: Evaluation of the academic record (AR) and/or Interview (I).
Academic Record (AR) CriteriaCriterion 1: Adequacy of the candidate's profile to the work plan to be developed.
Criterion 2: Absolute merit of curriculum vitae.
Interview (I) CriteriaCriterion 1: Motivation and interest.
Criterion 2: Knowledge and profile appropriate to the functions to be developed.
Criterion 3: Mastery of the English language.
Evaluation Scoring The evaluation of the criteria and the final classification will be based on a scale from 0 to 100, with scores rounded to the nearest hundredth, applying the following formulas: AR: criterion 1 × 40 % + criterion 2 × 60 % = 100 % ;
I: criterion 1 × 30 % + criterion 2 × 60 % + criterion 3 × 10 % = 100 % ;
Final Classification (FC): AR × 70 % + I × 30 % = 100 %.
Selection Threshold III
- Candidates who score below 50 in any selection method will be excluded, and subsequent methods, if any, will not apply to them.
