Quadrante is hiring a Senior Piping Stress Engineer to join our Industry Business Unit, Industrial Mechanics department at our Porto office.

With both national and international projects of varying scales and typologies, Quadrante offers a unique professional experience in the Portuguese engineering market.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead, oversee, and contribute to the design and development of piping systems in multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM projects (industrial energy, O&G, renewable hydrogen, biogas, and biomethane), taking full technical ownership from feasibility and FEED through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning
  • Apply advanced knowledge of piping design for both severe and non-severe service conditions (in accordance with DVGW regulations, ASME B31.1/B31.3, EN 13480, ISO 15649, PED 2014/68/EU) to ensure engineering integrity and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including feasibility study reports, specifications, piping classes, plant layouts, 3D models, P&IDs, line lists, isometrics, material take-offs, tender packages, and cost estimates
  • Develop and coordinate piping engineering work plans; track progress, report to the Project Manager, and monitor key material quantities, long-lead items (LLIs), and deliverables
  • Lead routing studies, equipment layout definition, and 3D model development, ensuring constructability, operability, and maintainability are embedded from early project phases
  • Perform and review pipe stress analysis (CAESAR II), flexibility studies, hydraulic calculations, support design, and nozzle load assessments; identify design risks and propose mitigation measures
  • Represent the piping discipline in interdisciplinary coordination meetings, design reviews, model reviews, and client interactions
  • Participate in and support HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and constructability reviews
  • Ensure timely project execution, managing priorities and workload within the assigned team
  • Contribute to the development of tools, standards, and methodologies to improve efficiency and quality
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and technical developments
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, regulatory authorities, and technical stakeholders to support construction, system acceptance, and commissioning


Profile:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Fluid Mechanics, Energy, or Structural Engineering
  • Proficiency in English (mandatory)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in industrial piping design
  • Experience in renewable hydrogen, biomethane/biogas, or industrial piping and equipment design is highly valued
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering tools, such as E3D (PDMS), AutoCAD Plant 3D, and ANSYS (valued)
  • Advanced experience in pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II (mandatory), in accordance with ASME B31.1/B31.3 and EN 13480
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with a strategic perspective, while maintaining attention to detail and prioritization
  • Experience in team leadership and coordination of internal and external stakeholders
