We’re looking for a Lead Data Scientist to be a member of our founding team. There’s a reason this is one of the first roles being hired as the power of data, including Machine Learning and AI, and how to use it effectively and ethically, will shape everything we do now and as we grow. This is a pivotal role so we’re looking for someone who has deep understanding and expertise in the full lifecycle of deep learning models, from ideation and prototyping, to production, scaling, and continuous tuning and improvement. At Savi the product is the company, so you will be a part of the core leadership team and will have a significant role in all key product decisions. You need to have a passion for creating ML and LLMs that understand and predict customer behaviour, with a special emphasis on developing our IP. You’ll be working closely with the rest of the core leadership team including the founders, a top-notch Researcher, stellar Product Designer, and visionary Head of Engineering. This role reports directly to the Chief Product & Technology Officer and Co-founder.

Data Science/ML/AI Vision & Strategy:

We are building a deeply customer-centric and customer-informed product, and need to use the right technology in the right ways to do that successfully.  The ability to understand the company vision and strategy and translate that into a clear roadmap is job one as it will inform all our key decisions as we create and scale the product and business. This is a vital leadership role as we will look to you to drive key decisions including determining the type of models, framework, and technology we will use. You will also understand how to leverage iterative product development using a test and learn approach and how to balance speed to market, scalability, platform stability and overall development and maintenance costs. 

Model Creation & Development:

Determine the optimal models, frameworks and technologies to use to enable the customer experience and achieve the defined business objectives and performance targets. Own the full development cycle from ideation and prototyping to development, deployment, and ongoing optimisation and tuning. Support data privacy, security, and compliance and work with engineering and operations to ensure the company has a clear plan for how customer data is stored, used ethically, and kept secure.

Best Practices & Driving Innovation:  

You will be the company’s ML and AI expert, ensuring we know what to focus on, what to keep an eye on as potential innovations, and what hype to ignore. You’ll lead the organisation in understanding ML and AI in application and practice, ensuring we’re thinking of what’s needed today and well into the future as we scale and take on bigger and more complex challenges. You’ll create our best practices for ML and AI, collaborate with the engineering and product team to iteratively develop solutions, and ensure we’re using data as our biggest asset and differentiator and the key driver of innovation.

Skills & Competencies 
  • Extensive hands-on experience with applied ML and AI, with a successful track record of delivery and driving measurable results
  • Exposure to a range of industries and domains, including Consumer/B2C, with the ability to quickly understand and apply ML solutions to diverse problem spaces
  • Extensive experience with owning the full lifecycle of building and using models which are integral to the product and business, including rapidly iterating and scaling, while ensuring performance, compliance, and security, especially for end-user/customer data
  • Experience in cloud-based ML model deployment and MLOps best practices
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to explain complex concepts and decisions to a variety of audiences
  • Expertise in translating business and customer requirements into actionable development plans
  • Ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity, ensuring the correct solution is delivered (rather than the first or fastest one)

Location + Work Style

We’ll all be where we need to be based on what’s happening, so this is a hybrid role with time spent in-person with customers (especially in the beginning) to support a rigorous feedback gathering and a test-and-learn process. We’ll have in-person team sessions as needed for key activities like planning, strategy, and brainstorming sessions (and some fun), and remote work the rest of the time to allow for flexibility, work-life balance, and quiet time for deep work. 

Savi is based in London and are looking for people in the UK and Europe to join our team. We regret that we can’t hire candidates from other locations or provide Visa sponsorship yet, but check back with us as we grow as we’ll be global soon

Salary Range:

€85k-€105k Euros Annually
