About The Opportunity

As part of the Calypso IT team, you will contribute to the development, maintenance and evolution of backend systems supporting key middle- and back-office processes.

You will work throughout the software development lifecycle, covering solution design, development, automated testing, deployment, production support and continuous improvement. You will also collaborate with functional and technical teams to understand business requirements, integration mechanisms and data sources.

Main Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, maintain and enhance Java backend applications.
Investigate and resolve application defects and production issues.
Collaborate with functional and technical project representatives.
Understand business processes, technical modules, integrations and data sources.
Develop solutions using Java, Spring Boot and object-oriented programming principles.
Prepare test plans and conduct unit, integration, regression, performance and functional testing.
Use automated testing frameworks to ensure application quality.
Contribute to technical design and document solutions using UML diagrams and models.
Develop prototypes and proofs of concept to validate business requirements.
Estimate development effort and prepare delivery schedules for different modules.
Ensure compliance with project and organizational development standards.
Produce technical, release and deployment documentation.
Deploy application components, shell scripts and database changes.
Conduct peer code reviews and promote software craftsmanship.
Collaborate with teams to solve complex technical problems.
Participate in process-improvement and delivery-efficiency initiatives.
Recommend new tools, frameworks and technical practices.
Provide daytime or out-of-hours support when required.
Take end-to-end responsibility for quality and prioritize the resolution of critical issues.

Mandatory Requirements

Strong professional experience in Java backend development.
Excellent knowledge of the Java ecosystem.
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming.
Hands-on experience developing applications with Spring Boot.
Knowledge of the Java Collections API.
Strong understanding of control structures, access modifiers and exception handling.
Experience with Oracle SQL.
Knowledge of Unix or Linux environments.
Experience developing shell scripts.
Demonstrable experience with DevOps tools and practices.
Strong understanding of the complete software development lifecycle.
Experience with application design, development, testing, deployment and support.
Ability to prepare and execute different types of software tests.
Experience producing technical and release documentation.
Strong coding skills and commitment to software craftsmanship.
Ability to conduct code reviews.
Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Highly Valued Experience

Experience with Calypso development or customization.
Knowledge of Calypso middle- or back-office modules.
Experience with financial-market or banking applications.
Understanding of middle- and back-office processes.
Experience with automated testing frameworks.
Knowledge of UML diagrams and technical modeling.
Experience developing proofs of concept.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and release automation.
Production support experience in business-critical environments.
Knowledge of financial products and capital-markets processes.
