Head of Accounting and Controlling

Bloq.it is rapidly expanding, and we are looking for a Head of Accounting & Controlling to lead our accounting and controlling functions across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement. What You’ll Be Doing Oversee timely recording, reconciliations, and journal entries for invoices, expenses, and accruals in collaboration with your accounting specialists; Ensure accurate recognition of revenue and costs in accordance with applicable accounting standards, including deferred revenue and contract liabilities; Manage full monthly payroll cycle and accounting on a group level in partnership with Accounting/Shared Services, including filings, reconciliations, and employee inquiries; Lead the monthly close for Portuguese and EU entities in partnership with Shared Services, ensuring accurate trial balances and adherence to account‑to‑reporting benchmarks; Deliver timely monthly management reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) and provide insights and variance analysis to support decision‑making; Manage financial controlling activities, monitor budget vs. actual performance, reports for MBRs, and provide actionable recommendations to designated teams and the management; Oversee indirect tax compliance, including VAT returns and reconciliations, CIT, Intrastat/EC Sales Lists, withholding taxes, and coordination with external advisors (including strategic R&D tax planning and incentives’ management where applicable); Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and audit readiness; coordinate entity‑level consolidations and group reporting; Lead ERP (Odoo/NetSuite/SAP/Oracle) management, strengthen internal controls, and drive continuous improvement in accounting and controlling processes. What You’ll Bring To The Table 6-8 years of experience in Accounting, Audit or Controlling environment, with 2-3 years of managing small accounting teams; Strong understanding of Portuguese GAAP and solid grounding in IFRS principles; proven experience in month‑end close, reporting, and process optimization to enhance accuracy and efficiency; Exposure to audit processes and internal control frameworks; Proficiency in ERP systems (Odoo, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and BI tools (Power BI, Looker, Tableau); Strong analytical mindset and advanced proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (large data handling, pivot tables, scenario modeling); Excellent communication skills, with English fluency required and Portuguese highly preferred. It Would Be Great If You Would Also Have Chartered Accountancy certification (or progress towards it); Multi‑entity experience across Europe or trans‑continental locations.
