About this opportunity


Senior professional responsible for advising a client on health & safety issues relating to a large construction projects, from project initiation to completion.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring and working with the principal contractor appointed to complete the project;
  • Attending regular meetings with the principal contractor;
  • Providing support and assistance to the principal contractor and contractors on site;
  • Positively engaging with our client and developing, growing and maintaining our relationship;
  • Delivering a high quality service which ensures that services meet our client's requirement;
  • Managing the client's health safety obligations on the project to deliver a high quality service;
  • Advising and assisting the client with their duties under the CDM regulations and other construction related health and safety standards, regulations and legislations;
  • Assisting with the coordination of health and safety aspects of design work;
  • Cooperating with others involved with the project;
  • Facilitating good communication between the client, designers and contractors;
  • Liaising with the principal contractor regarding ongoing design work;
  • Producing and presenting regular reports to our main client – this will involve prompt flash reports of major issues as well as comprehensive weekly and monthly reports detailing all aspects of health and safety management on site;
  • Mentoring and coaching employees so that they realise their full potential;
  • Preparing bids for services;
  • Advising directors promptly of any issues that have arisen, or will arise, on projects; in particular those that might impact on Gleeds professional indemnity (PI) insurance;

About The Candidate

Who we're looking for:


The role will be permanently based on a large construction project and the successful candidate must be someone who can work independently.

The role will require both high-level monitoring of a principal contractor and the candidate must be able to act on behalf of the client whilst maintaining a collaborative and positive relationship with the contractor.

Experience, Knowledge and Key Skills

  • Sound constructionrelated health and safety management experience, ideally as an owner representative / consultant
  • Experience in industrial construction projects or energy / electrical substations or data centres construction projects with similar job function
  • Experience in delivering services on a live construction site
  • Cohesive knowledge of construction methods
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience of construction related health and safety management;
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation relating to construction
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written
  • Excellent relations management skills
  • Competent ICT skills, with a high level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and lead teams
  • Proficiency in English and Portuguese
