What's the opportunity about?As the Product Design Lead you will be managing a team of product designers to build a successful product design organization while also contributing to key initiatives as a senior individual contributor.

Our product designers (PDs) partner directly with product management and engineering as Product Trios. They are expected to co-define and own the product strategy, vision, and guiding principles, and deliver on committed objectives.

PDs play a key role in continuous discovery and ensuring that the investments we make are most impactful for our users and our business.

You will be directly managing a team of three product designers (with potential for growth). You will own structuring and leading all aspects of product design, including processes, rituals, systems, and the design system.

You will balance these managerial responsibilities with contributing as a senior IC Product Designer on strategic initiatives and/or on a specific team.

In this role, you will report directly to the head of product.

You will be working in a B2B environment with deep tech, specifically on an AI-based product, so you should be excited about ownership over complex problems and creative technical solutions.

Responsibilities Managing the Product Designers at Unbabel; Own the Product Design function - including processes, rituals, ways of working; Partnering with product and engineering managers to frame problems, create clarity, and lead teams in the face of complexity and ambiguity; Carrying out both qualitative and quantitative discovery, and using insights to inform the decision-making process; Partnering with product managers to drive the practice of hypothesis-driven development; Advocating for product design excellence by taking a principled approach to design, focusing on crafted execution and an evidence-based methodology; Having the ability to create understanding within cross-functional teams and leverage the variety of expertise within your team; Participating in and facilitating strategic product discussions and workshops within cross-functional teams; Fostering an environment for delivering design excellence and measurable product impact by encouraging fellow designers to raise the bar and set new standards; Giving and seeking feedback to improve individual, team, and company performance; Working with fellow designers and front-end developers to bring Unbabel's design system to life, and participating by curating and continuously improving.

Requirements 5+ years of experience as a product designer in technology products, with experience in Product Trios, practicing Continuous Discovery and experiments; Experience managing people, setting up an organization, and being responsible for processes, rituals, systems, and design systems; Strong eye for visual design and intrinsic appreciation for crafting delightful experiences; Solid understanding of usability heuristics & design principles (balance, hierarchy, harmony, contrast, emphasis, repetition, pattern, rhythm, motion); A metric-driven mindset, working towards strategic product objectives; The ability to deliver wireframes, flow maps, information architecture, lo-fi and hi-fi prototypes, and implementation-ready designs; Expert command of design tools such as Figma, Miro, whiteboards, pens, and paper; Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with a diligent, autonomous, can-do attitude; Passion for language, artificial intelligence, and behavioral psychology; Clear verbal and written communication, including UX writing; Excellent command of English (C1 level as a minimum).
