System Design Capability: This involves the ability to design complex software systems that are scalable, efficient, and secure. This includes defining system architecture, selecting appropriate technologies, and establishing coding standards.
Creative Thinking and Problem-Solving: A Solution Designer should be able to think creatively to find innovative solutions to technical and business challenges. They should also be proficient in problem-solving and effectively handling issues.
Project Management: While not necessarily responsible for project management, Solution Designers should have a basic understanding of project management principles to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Certifications such as Azure or AWS Solutions Architect, SCRUM, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Certified Information Systems Security Professional - Architecture (CISSP), and VMware Certified Professional 6 - Cloud (VCP-Cloud) can be beneficial for this role.
