UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.Job Purpose Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Brand and Communications Manager will ensure the overall management of Brand & Communication plans and strategy to promote national visibility and support for children's issues and UNICEF's work. This role requires cutting-edge expertise in media to advance UNICEF's voice, reach, and engagement. The incumbent will use their expertise to define, drive, and oversee the development of policies and strategies related to media presence, corporate social media channels, content, reputation, and brand management of UNICEF Portugal.This role requires a creative and analytical thinker who can work across multiple departments to ensure brand consistency and effective communication.Key ResponsibilitiesBrand Strategy and Management:Develop and execute comprehensive brand strategies that align with UNICEF's values, goals and market positioning, to maximize brand recognition.Ensure consistent brand messaging across all channels.In collaboration with the Fundraising Department, leveraging market research and consumer insights to inform brand strategy and positioning.Manage and oversee brand guidelines, ensuring adherence to branding standards across all touchpoints.Communication Planning and Execution:Define, drive, and oversee the development of policies and strategies related to media presence, corporate social channels and content.Create and implement communication plans that effectively convey key messages to target audiences.Develop compelling content for various channels, including press releases, newsletters, website, etc.Coordinate with other departments and agencies on global and national external communication activities and plans, including for emergency communication and crisis management.Provide communication and brand support for all projects and areas.Public Relations and Media Relations:Build and maintain relationships with media professionals, journalists, opinion leaders, public figures, and other key stakeholders to maximize impact and reach.Coordinate and manage media inquiries, press releases, and public statements.Manage reputation in close collaboration with the Executive Director, establishing appropriate monitoring and control mechanisms.Lead spokesperson management, ensuring the development of tools for optimal external communication in media and social networks, aligned with core messages.Organize and oversee events, product launches, and press conferences.Team Leadership and Collaboration:Lead and mentor a team of brand and communication professionals.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Fundraising, Advocacy, Operations and Human Resources, to ensure cohesive brand messaging.Manage external agencies and vendors to ensure cohesive and effective communication strategies and campaigns.Create and maintain collaboration and partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders, including headquarters divisions and national committees.Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and other forums within and outside the system as required.Performance Measurement and Reporting:Establish KPIs and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of branding and communication efforts.Adjust strategies based on performance data and market feedback.Budget Management:Manage budget planning and allocation for the Brand & Communications department to ensure efficient use of resources.Qualifications and Competencies of a Successful CandidateAdvanced university degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, or another related field.5 to 10 years of experience in brand management, marketing and communications.Proven experience in leading high profile communication strategies and media outreach.Strong and extensive network of top-level media contacts globally.Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to interact independently with internal and external stakeholders and to speak in public.Flexible work attitude and ability to work well under pressure and meet unexpected demands.Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media, and content creation.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong leadership and team management abilities.Ability to think creatively and strategically.Experience with market research and data analysis.Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Values To undertake this mission, the candidate should identify with UNICEF's values: Care, Respect, Trust, Integrity, Accountability and Sustainability.UNICEF has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations, including sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority and discrimination.
