Offer Description This project aims at investigating fundamental aspects of nonlinear magnetization dynamics of hyperpolarized spins by Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) in high magnetic fields at liquid helium temperatures using an electronically feedback-controlled radio-frequency MASER. Different DNP mechanisms have characteristic NMR and EPR signatures, which justify an integrative approach to obtain more complete information.
The e-n polarization transfer mechanism is highly dependent on e-e and e-n couplings (hyperfine and g tensors), on the electron and nuclear spin densities, and on their spatial distributions, including the existence of nanoclusters. These will be investigated by EPR spectroscopy.
EPR experiments will include linewidth analysis, dipolar spectroscopy for the determination of e-e interactions, and hyperfine spectroscopy. Although theoretical models of various relaxation processes fit well with experimental data, theories are not yet capable of predicting coefficients that reflect the effectiveness of the processes for a particular system in rigid lattices. Electron spin–lattice relaxation of TEMPOL radicals will be studied under conditions relevant to their use in dissolution-DNP. The dependence of relaxation kinetics at different temperatures and on concentration up to 50-60 mM will be measured at X- and Q-bands. Thus, we will seek to determine experimentally the relaxation mechanisms at work.
The candidate will carry out the postdoctoral stage as part of the ANR project "DynNonLinPol" in collaboration with ENS Paris; EPR/ESR experiments will be carried out at LASIRE, EPR facility.
In this postdoc project (ANR DynNonLinPol), 1D and 2D hyperfine experiments, such as ESEEM and HYSCORE, will be optimized for the DNP samples. ENDOR and pulsed ELDOR-detected NMR will also be used to detect strong hyperfine couplings. Electron-electron interactions will be studied to determine longer e-e distances. PELDOR (DEER), as well as DQC-sequence, RIDME, and SIFTER will be optimized. In particular, by ESEEM experiments we will strive to disentangle the putative relaxation process behind the spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxation (T1, T2, Tm).
