Offer Description The LAPP (Laboratoire d'Annecy de Physique des Particules) CNRS institute in Annecy invites applications for a post-doctoral position to work on the ATLAS experiment at the proton-proton Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The position is focused on the development of effective-field theory (EFT) interpretations of ATLAS measurements and on Higgs boson coupling measurements.
The selected candidate is expected to take part in the activities of the LAPP ATLAS groups in the following areas:
Interpretation of ATLAS Run 2 results in the framework of effective field theories (EFTs).
Development of Higgs boson coupling measurements with Run 3 data, focusing in particular on the Higgs boson self-coupling measurements in the HH?bb?? mode, and/or Higgs CP measurements. This will involve in particular improving the analysis sensitivity to EFT parameters through the use of machine learning (ML) techniques.
Global EFT fits encompassing the results obtained at other experiments (CMS, LHCb, LEP, etc.).
A contribution to the ATLAS detector upgrade activities may also be considered.
The duration of the position is two years, financed through a grant from the French National Research Agency (ANR). The position is based at LAPP, but a regular presence at CERN is expected.
LAPP is a laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics (IN2P3), an institute of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), which coordinates programs in these fields. LAPP is a joint research unit (UMR 5814) of the CNRS and the University of Savoie Mont-Blanc (USMB). It hosts more than 150 researchers, teacher-researchers, engineers, technicians, administrators, students, and foreign visitors. The research carried out at LAPP aims to study the physics of elementary particles and their fundamental interactions, as well as to explore their links with the great structures of the Universe.
The LAPP/ATLAS group has played an important role in the construction, commissioning, and operation of the ATLAS Liquid Argon (LAr) calorimeter. It is strongly involved in the upgrade of the LAr and Pixel detectors towards the HL-LHC. The group has long-standing contributions in Higgs boson physics, particularly through Higgs coupling measurements in the H??? decay and the search for Higgs boson pair production. It is also involved in multiboson physics, particularly in the WZ final state, and exotic searches in the dilepton final state.
