**-the General Counsel & Head of Staff is expected to attend in -person meetings in Cabra Figa or Lisbon about 3-4 times a month.**

**Job Overview and Main Goals**

We are hiring our first General Counsel & Head of Staff to strengthen our business and accelerate our mission. As General Counsel, you will provide expert legal guidance and oversight, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while mitigating legal risks. As Head of Staff, you will serve as a partner to the Senior Leadership Team while fostering collaboration and driving organizational effectiveness.

**General Counsel Responsibilities**
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, regulatory affairs and compliance, customer grievances, intellectual property, shipping, and employment law;
- Develop and implement legal strategies to safeguard the organization's interests and mitigate legal risks;
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents in collaboration with the Legal and Financial Analyst;
- Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact the business and advise accordingly;
- Manage external legal resources, including outside counsel, as necessary;
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support decision-making across the business;
- Ensure corporate governance and compliance with legal requirements; and
- Be available for special projects and to lend support to individuals and teams when needed, eg Data Privacy, Accessibility, Health & Safety, audits, etc.

**Head of Staff Responsibilities**
- Help improve internal & external communications for CEO:

- Internal - weekly digest, monthly digest, quarterly digest, and others;
- External - work with finance team to improve monthly reporting to shareholders
- Partner with the Senior Leadership Team to oversee strategic business initiatives, including OKRs from development through successful execution;
- Assist in content, strategy and agendas for Board of Directors, leadership, and company-wide meetings;
- Partner with the leadership team in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation;
- Facilitate cross-functional team meetings and project manage deliverables;
- In collaboration with the People team, review, design, and execute on improvements to org structure, find knowledge and skills gaps and help address them;
- Optimize current processes and coordinate organizational procedures for ultimate collaboration, sustainability, maximum efficiency, productivity, and profitability; and
- In collaboration with the Finance team, determine, manage and monitor company and team objectives and key performance indicators

**Required Skills and Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Laws degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing;
- Proven experience (5+ years) practicing law, with a focus on corporate/commercial law and/or relevant industry experience in US and Portuguese environments;
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization;
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset and attention to detail;
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
- Previous experience in a Head of Staff or similar role;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality; and
- Full English and Portuguese fluency
