Overview

Senior Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) – emagine

Location: Lisbon, Portugal (Hybrid work - 2x week)

Job Type: B2B Contract

Duration: 12 months initial contract + extension

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced performance tuning and optimization across Oracle, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, and Sybase environments.
  • Deliver expert-level technical support to internal DBA teams and external client deployments.
  • Ensure high availability, security, and resilience of all production and nonproduction database systems.
  • Continuously monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot system and query-level performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to design scalable, efficient database architectures.
  • Participate in R&D initiatives by evaluating new database features and technologies for integration into the CV platform.
  • Lead database migrations, version upgrades, and patch management processes.
  • Establish and maintain robust documentation and best practice guidelines for database operations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a professional DBA, with expert-level Oracle database administration.
  • Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, MSSQL, Sybase, and optionally MariaDB/MySQL.
  • Deep knowledge of SQL scripting, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
  • Proven ability to conduct performance troubleshooting and root cause analysis in production environments.
  • Solid understanding of Linux/Unix systems and shell scripting.
  • Experience managing and supporting databases on cloud platforms, specifically Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Oracle Enterprise Manager, pgAdmin, etc.) and automation frameworks is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented, proactive mindset.
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certifications.
  • Experience working in agile/Scrum environments.
  • Ability to engage with clients directly and provide consultation-level support.

  • Work Model: Hybrid work setup — 2 days/week onsite at Spaces, Marquês de Pombal, Lisbon.
  • Join a specialized DBA team that emphasizes technical discussions and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Work on both internal platforms and external client environments.
