Overview Practice Consultant - Global Products (Retail) Join Bain’s Global Retail Practice, a flagship industry group recognized for passion, energy, and innovation. The practice spans grocery, apparel and footwear (including luxury fashion), specialty retail, restaurants and food service, and travel and leisure. You’ll also collaborate with Bain’s global Product, Practice, and Knowledge (PPK) teams, including Centers of Expertise, data scientists, developers, and external partners such as OpenAI. As a Practice Consultant, you’ll focus on core retail products—from category leadership and customer-led merchandising to supplier negotiations and supply chain solutions—and contribute to IP development, accelerate case delivery, and directly support client impact in a fast-growing sector. What You’ll Do Contribute to product development, competitive scans, and next-generation offerings (including AI-enabled solutions) Build and maintain compelling IP, playbooks, and sales collateral to equip case teams with proven solutions Support product commercialization through client meetings, proposals, and go-to-market initiatives Provide thought leadership and rapid-response support to case teams in relevant retail topics Help shape product reputation through publications, marketing strategies, and external network building Manage ongoing product operations, including Bain.Com updates, training roadmaps, budgets, and analyst teams Inspire and coach colleagues, contributing to team development, engagement, and professional growth Qualifications ABOUT YOU BA or equivalent required; MBA preferred 4+ years of professional experience, including 1–2 years of current or recent consulting experience at the Consultant level with a leading consulting firm Passion for the retail industry and its transformation Preferred Experience Exposure to retail projects or industry roles Project management experience Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (e.G., Alteryx, Tableau) Skills & Attributes Collaborative and customer-focused mindset Entrepreneurial and proactive, with strong prioritization skills Bright, pragmatic problem solver with a data-driven approach Strong communication skills — articulate, concise, and adaptable across audiences Energetic, enthusiastic, and skilled at relationship-building Inspirational leader with a track record of developing high-performing teams A teammate who is passionate about the work and enjoyable to collaborate with What Bain Can Offer You Develop deep retail expertise: Build and showcase thought leadership through cutting-edge IP, provocative points of view, and market-facing content.
