Our client is currently hiring a Senior Frontend Systems Engineer to join their team This is an opportunity to be part of the engineering team in Portugal of an AI- and automation-driven financial crime operations company from Iceland. The Company is focused on transforming how financial institutions fight financial crime, building and operating an Azure-native platform that combines scalable data engineering, advanced agentic AI, and workflow automation to make AML operations faster, more accurate, and significantly more cost-efficient. The target is moving beyond software-as-a-tool toward delivering automation, intelligent agents, and operational outcomes. Includes:Agentic AI systems to support and automate case decisions Precomputed analytics, detection engines, and workflow automation Human-in-the-loop intelligence that reduces manual workload A platform that enables significantly lower cost-to-serve for AML operations About the role: This position requires a strong engineering discipline centred on design clarity, scalability, and long-term maintainability. The Company maintains a rigorous design-first culture, where architectural decisions are documented, reviewed, and debated before implementation. Engineers work through design documents, RFCs, and structured discussions to ensure transparency and consistency across the platform.The new engineering group will be building the technological core of this operational transformation.Engineering team: The company prioritises engineering fundamentals, versatility, and system thinking over narrow specialisation. The aim is to build a senior engineering team capable of adapting to evolving technologies and handling complexity across multiple domains. The engineering culture is anchored in:Design before implementation: Clear, documented decisions through design docs and architectural debates. System-level thinking: Understanding how components interact across data, compute, and operations. Reliability and maintainability: Designing systems that operate predictably under real-world conditions. Measured pragmatism: Choosing technologies that solve real problems, not adopting tools for their own sake. Ownership and accountability: Engineers drive outcomes across design, implementation, and operations. Capabilities:Distributed systems and cloud-native architectures. Performance engineering and scalability. Event-driven and message-oriented systems. Data modeling and high-volume data processing. Production-grade API and service design. Debugging real-world systems and operational awareness. Ability to work across multiple technology stacks when needed. Tech Stack: The company uses tools such as Azure, AKS, Spark, Iceberg, Trino, Redis, Keycloak, and React. Rather than focusing on specific tools, the Company seeks engineers who can think conceptually, adapt, learn quickly, navigate multiple environments and create reliable systems. Responsibilities: This role builds complex, real-time interfaces for AML investigations and case handling. Requirements: Senior-level React and TypeScript expertise. Experience with large-scale data-driven UI systems. Ability to collaborate closely with backend engineers on system behaviour.
