Job Title: English Language Educator

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced English language educator to join our dynamic team at the British Council. As a key member of our global community, you will play a vital role in helping English language learners achieve their linguistic, study, work, and life goals.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students' performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services, in order to meet students' needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
  • Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain the British Council's position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
  • Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas: child protection, equal opportunity and diversity, health and safety, and bribery and corruption.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate and/or university degree.
  • Cambridge CELTA and/or Trinity CertTESOL.
  • Recognised diploma in EFL, such as Cambridge DELTA and/or Trinity Diploma TESOL.
  • Additional specialist qualifications, such as PGCE and/or B.ED in Primary, TYLEC, and/or Nile Teaching English in Pre-Primary education.
  • Equivalent to 2 years' experience post-certificate (CELTA and/or Trinity cert TESOL).
  • Experience in teaching three of the following age groups: Early Years (4-5), Primary (6-9), Lower Secondary (10-12), Upper Secondary (13-17), and Adults General English (18+).

Contract Details:

  • Fixed-term for 12 months, with the option of renewal subject to performance.
  • Contract teaching hours: 18 hours.
  • Local restrictions on employment: applicants must be EU nationals and have the right to work in Portugal.

Benefits:

  • Meal allowance: Euros 6.50 per working day (x11 months, not paid in August).
  • Onboarding allowances: applicable if hired from outside Portugal only.
  • Leaves: annual paid leave of 35 days per 12-month period, in addition to locally observed public holidays proportional to the time of joining.
  • Medical allowance: you will be registered with a local medical insurance scheme, subscribed to by the British Council, which covers 80% of medical costs, subject to the eligibility criteria of the scheme.
