Senior Underwriting

The Senior Underwriter supports the sales process for new business acquisition as well as the renewal of existing business by analysing products, terms and conditions, claims experience, related risks and thereby defining the risk adequate price via own calculation as well as direct exchange with global technical excellence team.

**DIMENSIONS OF ROLE**
- Reporting to the Country Manager
- Regular contact with local Leadership Team
- Direct contacts with sales team, legal and global technical excellence team
- Direct contact with clients and partners - as required

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Lead and direct the overall underwriting strategy, operations and policies developments across all business lines of AXA Partners Portugal
- Ensure profitability, growth and efficiencies that align with the organisation’s goal and objectives
- Maintain risk selection criteria and methods that supports sound risk management
- Establish overall direction and provide guidelines on the pricing
- Establish technical quotation in respect of group underwriting policy and sales strategy and compliance requirements
- Support the commercial team for negotiation and renegotiation of new and existing business
- Manage and monitor the portfolio profitability review, ensure a proper and efficient portfolio management
- Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to drive and enhance business performance
- Develop reporting capabilities to manage overall performance, frequencies, and operational efficiencies
- Manage the Underwriting area / team
- Act as a role model and demonstrate good leadership behaviour

**Your Profile**
**SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**
- Master in economics/statistics/mathematics or alike
- Min. 8 years of working experience in the insurance or finance sector, within one of the following functions: Underwriting, Financial analysis with product orientation
- High affinity in working with numbers and raw data
- Excellent analytical skills
- Problem solving skills
- Language requirements: Portuguese and English (mandatory)
- Business acumen and commercial sense
- Excel based or related tools mastery
- Ability to understand and work with legal documents such as insurance terms and conditions and contractual wordings
- Experience in people management
- Open Communicator
- Team Player
- High level of autonomy
