1 research position for a Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação para Mestre“) is opened at Instituto de Telecomunicações - Delegação de Leiria, in the scope of the Project LA/P/0109/2020LA/P/0109/2020. This project is funded by FCT/MCTES through national funds and when applicable co-funded EU funds under the project. **Admission Requirements**:
Degree of Master in Science in Electrical and Computing Engineering, or equivalent course, with a grade point average not inferior to 16 out of 20. Self-motivation for scientific research and ability for teamwork. Registered in a Ph.D. Degree on Electrical Engineering, or equivalent course

**Work Objectives**:
This project aims to propose the development of methods for accurate estimation of disparity in light fields, development of light field compression technique based on 4D-geometry using disparity compensation, and incorporation of developed methods in the JPEG-PLENO standard. The applicant will develop research activities, specifically, with the following three main goals of the work to be developed within the scope of this research grant:
1. Development and testing of disparity estimation and compression algorithms of light fields based on 4D-geometry modeling with disparity compensation and incorporation into the JPEG-PLENO standard.
2. Validation of the results obtained in the previous task, and necessary adjustments for the validation process.
3. Writing publications on the methods developed.

The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações - Delegação de Leiria at the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão (ESTG) of the Politécnico de Leiria under the supervision of Sérgio Faria and Lucas Thomaz.

**Duration**:
6 months. Start date: 15st December 2024.
