We are seeking a Tech Lead – Data Engineering with a strong foundation in AWS and solid experience in solution architecture, data engineering, and database management. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys combining technical depth with team leadership, working closely with business and engineering stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-performance data solutions.

Hybrid – 3x per week onsite (Porto city)

About the Role

As a Tech Lead (with 2–3 years experience in similar leadership roles and 4–5 years in data engineering), you will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud-based data platforms on AWS (and optionally Azure), aligned with the defined data architecture.

You will:

• Translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Design and optimise data pipelines and ETL processes
• Distribute tasks across the team and provide technical mentorship
• Ensure production readiness, monitoring, and troubleshooting best practices

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable data solutions using AWS Lambda, Glue, Step Functions
• Define robust solution architectures, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and cost optimisation
• Work with cloud networking concepts: VPCs, subnets, security groups, routing tables
• Design efficient data models optimised for analytical workloads
• Write and optimise SQL queries, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks
• Manage ETL processes and data integration into Redshift, MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Implement orchestration workflows using Apache Airflow and AWS Step Functions
• Use Athena for interactive analysis of large datasets stored in Amazon S3
• Set up logging, monitoring, and tracing using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS X-Ray
• Produce high-quality solution documentation and technical documentation
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering team members
• Challenge business requirements and propose innovative, efficient technical solutions
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends

Candidate Profile

Must have

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
• English – B2 level or higher
• Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset
• Passion for technology and continuous improvement
