Our work combines machine learning, time-series modeling, modern software engineering, and agent-based AI systems. We partner closely with our clients to design, build, and deploy AI-powered products that deliver real business impact.

Role Description

We are looking for an AI Engineer to join our growing team and help build and scale ZAAI's core AI products. This role is well-suited for someone with 2+ years of experience who wants to grow while working on real-world systems used by retail companies.

You will work on the software infrastructure behind our AI forecasting engine and contribute to search, recommendation, and agent-based systems. You'll collaborate closely with data scientists, product leaders, and consultants in a supportive, hands-on environment, focusing on building reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, and maintain backend systems that power ZAAI's AI forecasting and analytics products.
  • Implement APIs and services that support forecasting, search, recommendation, and agent-based workflows.
  • Work closely with data scientists to productionize machine learning models and AI agents.
  • Build and improve data pipelines and services for ingesting, processing, and serving large-scale retail data.
  • Help develop systems for semantic search, retrieval, orchestration, and AI-driven decision-making.
  • Improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and observability in production.
  • Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code following best engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with product, consulting, and client-facing teams to translate business requirements into robust software solutions.
  • Monitor production systems and help debug, optimize, and evolve them over time.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience as an AI Engineer, Software Engineer or in a related role.
  • Strong foundations in software engineering principles, data structures, and system design.
  • Experience with Python and backend development (e.g. APIs, services, data processing).
  • Familiarity with deploying and operating production systems (cloud environments, containers, CI/CD, or similar).
  • Interest or hands-on experience working with AI-powered systems, ML pipelines, or data-intensive applications.
  • Comfortable working with real-world, imperfect data and evolving requirements.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical teammates.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Bonus points if:

  • You've worked on AI, ML, or data-heavy products.
  • You have experience with search, recommendation systems, or retrieval-based architectures.
  • You've built or supported systems involving AI agents or workflow orchestration.
  • You've worked with retail, e-commerce, or supply chain platforms.
  • You've contributed to production systems used by real customers.
  • You enjoy learning, experimenting, and growing in a collaborative team.
