CALL FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS (AE***)
Organisation/Company INESC TEC Research Field Engineering » Electrical engineering Researcher Profile First Stage Researcher (R1) Application Deadline 28 Oct *:59 (UTC) Country Portugal Type of Contract Temporary Job Status Full-time Hours Per Week 36 Offer Starting Date 16 Nov Is the job funded through the EU Research Framework Programme? Not funded by a EU programme Reference Number AE* Is the Job related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No 1. GRANT DESCRIPTION
Type of grant: Research Grant (BI) General scientific area: ENGINEERING Scientific subarea: Electrical engineering Grant duration: 12 months, starting on ** , with the possibility of being renewed until the end of the project. Workplace: INESC TEC, Porto, Portugal Maintenance stipend: *, according to the table of monthly maintenance stipend for FCT grants ( ), paid via bank transfer. Grant holders may be awarded potential supplements, according to a quarterly evaluation process (Articles 19, 21 and 22 of the Regulations for Grants of INESC TEC and Annex II), up to a maximum limit of 50 of the monthly maintenance stipend. The grant holder will benefit from health insurance, supported by INESC TEC. 2. OBJECTIVES:
The work to be developed will have the following main objectives: Design, integrate, and validate mechatronic subsystems on modular platforms and their robotic implements for tasks in vineyards or forests; Develop and test mechatronic systems and low-level control algorithms for the automation of agroforestry tasks; Support the integration of perception and vision modules for task automation and actuation of operational mechanisms; Contribute to the development and testing of coupling and uncoupling mechanisms for implements and automated reloading modules (docking station); Test and validate the performance of the developed solutions in a real agricultural and forestry operation context. 3. BRIEF PRESENTATION OF THE WORK PROGRAMME AND TRAINING:
The work plan includes the analysis and specification of requirements for the development of mechatronic subsystems applied to robotic platforms and implements in a vineyard or forest context. The technical design, instrumentation, electrical diagrams and programming of control units will be carried out to activate actuators and active bodies of robotic implements.
The work will also include the development of firmware, distributed control architectures and embedded communications networks for integration between low-level control, sensors and the mobile platform's embedded computing systems. Additionally, it will include support for the integration of perception modules aimed at automating operations and the study of mechanical and electrical interfaces for docking and charging stations.
Whenever applicable, laboratory tests and tests will be carried out in a real operating environment, allowing the reliability and performance of mechatronic solutions developed in field conditions to be assessed. 4. REQUIRED PROFILE:
Admission
requirements:
Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, currently enrolled in a doctoral program. The awarding of the fellowship is dependent on the applicants' enrolment in study cycle or non-award courses of Higher Education Institutions. Preference factors:
Experience in projects applied to precision viticulture or precision forestry. Experience in electrical diagram design, PCB development, and CAD/3D modeling tools. Experience in distributed control architectures and CAN bus. Experience in integrating computer vision modules or sensing models for task automation. Experience in motor control and drive electronics. Experience in experimental testing and data collection in a real operating environment. Existence of published scientific articles. Minimum
requirements:
Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Active enrollment in a doctoral program. Knowledge of mechatronic systems and the integration of actuators and sensors. Knowledge of C/C++ and Python programming. Knowledge of programming for microcontrollers and embedded systems. 5. EVALUATION OF APPLICATIONS AND SELECTION PROCESS:
Selection criteria and corresponding valuation: the first phase comprises the Academic Evaluation (AC), based on the criteria referred to in Article 12 of the Regulations for Grants of INESC TEC, while the second phase comprehends the Individual Interview (EI). All factors are evaluated on a scale of 0 to 100, taking into account the applicants' merit, suitability and conformity with the preference factors. The weight of the AC factors are as follows: Academic Qualifications (FA, 45), Scientific Publications (PC, 5), Experience (EX, 45) and Motivation Letter (CM, 5). Candidates who score less than 50 points in the AC average will be considered excluded on absolute merit. The top five candidates approved on absolute merit wil
