Offer Description The HMPi research project aims to understand and describe as precisely as possible the physicochemical processes inherent to high-pressure flows, particularly in supercritical regimes. The applications of supercritical fluids are numerous, including CO2 supercritical fluid extraction, which is a clean and safe alternative for the plant chemistry and pharmaceutical industries. They are also used in energy mixes or to obtain efficient and sustainable processes such as the treatment or recycling of waste using supercritical water, producing methane, hydrogen, and biofuel, and increasing the thermal efficiency of power plants using supercritical CO2 via solar towers.
The description of systems in a supercritical regime requires a complex set of models, which is the topic of this postdoc. For example, in the Supercritical Anti-Solvent (SAS) process, the size of particles depends on several simultaneous and interdependent transfer processes: speed of diffusion of the antisolvent in the liquid solution, fragmentation of the jet, evaporation of the liquid, turbulent mixing, and heat transfer. These processes will define whether the studied jet evolves as an atomized spray or as a monophasic supercritical jet. In combustion applications, water, a product of combustion, can exist in liquid or solid state, rendering numerical simulation highly challenging.
The objective of this Post-Doctorate offer is to encompass the challenges inherent to the numerical simulation of high-pressure flows. To achieve this, the supercritical flows will be simulated with our DNS/LES numerical code (SiTCom-B), integrating various modeling strategies to address supercritical flows.

Skills/Qualifications The candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in numerical simulations of fluid mechanics, energy, aeronautics, or chemical engineering. Experience in simulations and Fortran coding is required. Knowledge in thermodynamics or atomization/spray modeling is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are essential; French is a plus. Rigor and autonomy are expected.

Additional Information Administrative: The position will take place at INSA de Rouen (CORIA) starting in December 2024, for 1 year. A monthly salary of 3,600€ gross is offered, with the possibility of additional salary via course sessions under certain conditions.
