JOB OVERVIEW

The Portuguese Senior Linguist plays a key role in ensuring high-quality translation and localization for assigned projects and accounts. The linguist is responsible for coordinating freelance translators, addressing project-related queries, and fostering effective collaboration among team members. Additionally, they will contribute to process improvements, test and qualify new vendors, and train both internal linguists and freelancers.

MAIN DUTIES

1. Performing copy-edit tasks on assigned projects or accounts
2. Performing on-demand translation tasks
3. Performing lead function on assigned accounts
4. Taking ownership of deliveries that were translated internally or by freelancers for one or more accounts into their target language
5. Preparing, managing and maintaining the language materials (including glossaries, Style Guides, and work instructions) up to the quality standards and up to date as required by the account or project
6. Managing project-related queries
7. Ensuring good interaction among team members and resolving questions on terminology and language matters
8. Coordinating a team of freelancers on assigned projects or accounts
9. Testing and qualifying new freelancers and vendors as required
10. Developing and training of internal linguists/new and existing freelancers according to the accounts' and Welocalize's needs
11. Interacting with clients on linguistic matters as required
12. Participating in the development of new and improved working processes
13. Meet or exceed the productivity KPI
14. Achieving the goals set by the Partner Engagement Manager

REQUIREMENTS

1. Education Level: University degree in Translation/Applied Languages or equivalent combination of education and experience
2. 4+ years of relevant experience in translation/localization
3. Fluent in English, both written and spoken
4. Native fluency in designated Portuguese for Portugal language
5. Thorough understanding of the localization process
6. Excellent user experience of standard software, such as Windows and Office applications
7. Excellent user experience of standard CAT tools, e.g. XTM, SDL Studio, and issue tracking and query management tools, e.g. JIRA
8. Ability to learn new localization tools and applications quickly
9. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
10. Excellent knowledge of terminology used in two or more subject matters
11. Subject-matter expert within company for discipline or process
12. Ability to work with tight deadlines
13. Ability to give clear, concise and constructive feedback
14. Ability to coordinate internal and external translators
15. Excellent problem-solving skills
16. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and linguists
17. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
18. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
19. Ability and willingness to train/teach others and pass on knowledge
20. Ability, willingness and experience in communicating positively with customers at various levels
21. Ability to work in a virtual team
