We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Research Grant at Instituto De Telecomunicações in Coimbra. This exciting opportunity will allow you to develop cutting-edge technology for real-time 3D modelling of underwater environments.
About the RoleThe selected candidate will be responsible for developing an embedded accelerator platform for real-time 3D modelling, leveraging VISLAM algorithms and datasets to address challenges such as turbidity and refraction. The successful applicant will also explore AI-based visualization improvements to enhance the overall quality of the model.
Key Responsibilities- Survey and analyze VISLAM algorithms and available datasets to assess performance limitations
- Develop an optimized embedded SLAM system using AI-driven techniques like 3D Gaussian Splatting
- Implement multi-sensor fusion algorithms to enhance pose estimation accuracy
- Validate the system through experiments with underwater datasets, ensuring efficient power consumption and real-time performance
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related topics
- Proven knowledge of real-time software programming, Kalman filtering, embedded systems, and sensor fusion
- Strong Matlab/Simulink, Python, and C/C++ programming skills
- CUDA parallel programming, OpenCV image processing, and Linux experience is a plus
- Experience with hardware development and system integration, as well as SLAM and AI algorithms for image processing
