The Team

The Accounts Payable team based in Portugal services 5 business units across the international Hiscox group and is responsible for the paying of supplier invoices and employee expenses accurately and on time.

The role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager to lead and embed the change for our newly restructured global accounts payable team based in Lisbon. This is a critical role focused on ensuring smooth transitions, standardising processes, and achieving operational excellence during a period of significant change.

**Responsibilities**:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and manage the global accounts payable team, ensuring alignment with organisational goals- Alongside the Deputy Manager, provide training, guidance, and support to team members to enhance performance and development- Foster a collaborative and positive working environment

Process Improvement and Standardisation:
- Evaluate and standardise accounts payable processes across the global team- Implement best practices to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance- Develop and document standard operating procedures

Change Management:
- Drive the successful embedding of the new global accounts payable structure in Lisbon- Manage stakeholder communication and expectations during the transition- Monitor and report on the progress of the change initiatives- Promote expense management and cost control throughout the Business by providing regular, timely, and targeted reporting from the procurement system, Marketplace

Operational Excellence:
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and reconciliations- Manage relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve any issues- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes related to accounts payable, ensuring that monthly reconciliation of balance sheet control accounts are conducted in compliance with internal control policy

Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with company policies, local regulations, and international accounting standards- Identify and mitigate risks related to accounts payable operations- Conduct regular audits and reviews to maintain high standards of accuracy and integrity,

Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and present regular reports on accounts payable metrics and performance- Analyse data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management

Person Specification- Fluent in English & Portuguese (Spanish, French, German or Dutch will be an added value)- Strong leadership and people management skills, being able to support and encourage others to ensure quality services are consistently delivered- Experience of managing KPIs, SLAs and other performance metrics- Mindset of continuous development, able to demonstrate how to effectively deliver change to different stakeholder groups- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Especially to senior levels- Demonstratable understanding of accounting and management principles and accounts payable procedures would be an advantage- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.- Proactive and solution-oriented mindset.- Adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Professional- Experience in Accounts Payable is essential- Intermediate to Advanced Excel knowledge- Oracle and/or Procure to Pay system knowledge necessary
