About the Role

Gleeds is a leading global construction consultancy, seeking an experienced Senior Data Centre Cost Manager to join our team.

As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for representing the company and leading cost and procurement management aspects of data centre construction projects. Your primary focus will be on overseeing the financial and contractual elements to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

You will work closely with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to drive value and efficiency throughout the project life cycle. Your responsibilities will include formulating and managing strategies to deliver business objectives, ensuring that projects are managed in accordance with Gleeds processes and procedures, building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, contractors, and stakeholders, and delivering high-quality services and deliverables.

The ideal candidate will have sound cost management experience in data centre construction projects, covering pre-contract and construction/post-contract cost management tasks. They will also possess practical knowledge of construction procurement strategies, including tendering and contract strategies. A methodical way of thinking and approach to work, organisational skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing environments are essential.

In addition, the successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving, negotiating, finance, and numeracy management skills, as well as sound ICT skills, with a good level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. They must be able to work as part of a team and manage teams effectively, and be fluent in English.

We estimate the salary for this role to be approximately £80,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on location and experience. Responsibilities

  • Formulate and manage strategies to deliver business objectives
  • Ensure that projects are managed in accordance with Gleeds processes and procedures
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Deliver high-quality services and deliverables
  • Resolving customer complaints
  • Lead the commercial and cost management functions for hyper-scale data centre projects
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with project goals and client expectations
  • Oversee cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure financial control
  • Conduct cost analysis and benchmarking to optimise project costs
  • Manage contract negotiations and compliance to ensure all contractual obligations are met and risks are mitigated
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, implementing risk mitigation strategies to protect project interests
  • Promote sustainable practices and innovative solutions in cost management
  • Review scope of appointments on a regular basis to ensure services are being delivered in accordance with appointments
  • Ensure sufficient resources are made available to deliver services on the project
  • Lead and manage Teams, including working with Associate Directors in managing resources and workload. Ensure compliance with administrative requirements (appraisals, training, timesheets etc)
  • Brief employees on relevant aspects of Gleeds business
  • Manage service delivery for profit
  • Manage the commercial aspects of projects (e.g. scope of services/deliverables, invoices, payments, and debt management).

Requirements

  • Sound cost management experience in data centre construction projects, covering pre-contract and construction/post-contract cost management tasks
  • Practical knowledge of construction procurement strategies, including tendering and contract strategies
  • Methodical way of thinking and approach to work
  • Organisational skills and ability to quickly adapt to changing environments
