About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Director to join our project team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for representing the company and leading cost and procurement management aspects of a data centres construction project delivery.

The successful candidate will oversee the financial and contractual elements to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This will involve working closely with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to drive value and efficiency throughout the project life cycle.

Responsibilities
  1. Formulate and manage strategies to deliver business objectives.
  2. Ensure projects are managed in accordance with Gleeds processes and procedures.
  3. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and stakeholders; ensure a customer care plan is in place.
  4. Deliver high-quality services and deliverables ensuring services meet our customer's requirements.
  5. Resolve customer complaints.
  6. Lead the commercial and cost management functions for hyper-scale data centre projects.
  7. Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with project goals and client expectations.
  8. Oversee cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure financial control.
  9. Conduct cost analysis and benchmarking to optimise project costs.
  10. Manage contract negotiations and compliance to ensure all contractual obligations are met and risks are mitigated.
  11. Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, implementing risk mitigation strategies to protect project interests.
  12. Promote sustainable practices and innovative solutions in cost management.
  13. Review scope of appointments on a regular basis to ensure services are being delivered in accordance with appointments.
  14. Ensure sufficient resources are made available to deliver services on the project.
  15. Lead and manage teams, including working with Associate Directors in managing resources and workload.
  16. Ensure compliance with administrative requirements (appraisals, training, timesheets, etc).
  17. Brief employees on relevant aspects of Gleeds business.
  18. Manage service delivery for profit.
  19. Manage the commercial aspects of projects (e.g. scope of services/deliverables, invoices, payments, and debt management).
  20. Work harmoniously with other project team leads and assist Project and Programme Directors.
About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in cost management, procurement, and commercial operations. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A sound understanding of construction procurement strategies, including tendering and contract strategies.
  • Practical experience in cost management, including pre-contract and construction/post-contract cost management tasks.
  • A methodical approach to work and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Quantity Surveying, and/or relevant professional qualifications.
